First and foremost I want to say that rearranging the layout of your room helps a lot with creating a cozy space. Depending on where you go to school, obviously the rooms are different!
Lofting beds is always a good idea. It creates more space in the room and adds a personal touch. Whatever you decide to put under the lofted bed adds to the coziness of your room. For example, I used a lofted bed and had my desk and clothes racks in the designated space. (My closet was TINY!) There wasn't much room underneath but it made my desk area way more cozy. I felt like I was sitting in my own little box... my roommate used to say it was my own world. I attached a picture below of my room so you can have a general idea of what it would look like. You can always higher the lofted beds as well! My picture below shows my lofted bed before I made it higher. Sometimes the loft is just to low to fit anything under!
Me and my roommate realized that lofting our beds and stacking our other furniture made our room more spacious. We had the little three drawer dressers... instead of having them separated in the room, we stacked them! It was a little hard to reach into the top drawer but it created A LOT more space.
Another good technique is finding furniture that is already in your room to utilize. Most college students bring TV's. I know I needed one. Utilize whatever furniture you have first, before going out and buying new stuff. Putting your tv on top of a dresser or desk shelf is always beneficial. However you want to organize your room, organize it! After worry about the decorations. The layout of the room is the most important!
Here's the link to another blog that I found useful. It shows different layouts of the room. Most of the furniture in the pictures was the furniture they gave at URI. It may be a little more helpful for you to understand what I'm talking about!

So I got the privilege of learning about your blog. To start you about me is great. Shows how you care for this topic a lot and how you have had experiences in the past that relate you to it. Your description of the blog was spot on too, you described what I would see and how it would be shown. Finally, your first post was a good start. Showed great examples to start off designing a room and makes someone interested in this topic want to learn more.
ReplyDeleteHello, Andrea! I love your blog topic it is very interesting and useful. I can relate to having such a nice dorm room that I always wanted to be in. First off, your "About Me" is very interesting and informative, I feel like I know you as a person because of the tone of voice you choose to write it in expressing your opinions and ideas. I don't think there needs to be any improvements made other than watching out for grammar issues, but it is very descriptive. Your blog description is helpful and you do a good with with briefly describing your blog. You described what type of posts you will be making and the length of the posts which is helpful. I don't see any areas of improvement for your blog description it is well written. Your first post is very interesting and does present an interesting "jumping off point" for the blog that introduced me to the content and the style of the blog and it did make me want to come back for more because you explained your personal experiences with your dorm and gave your opinions, and it made the blog relatable. Being able to relate to your job definitely made me eager to read more. Overall, you did a great job, I don't see any major areas of improvement.
ReplyDeleteAndrea,
ReplyDeleteI love your blog so far and think it is a really great idea. I can tell you really enjoy decorating.
-Your about me is great, but I found myself wanting to know more about you. For example, what is your major, and what made you so passionate about organizing and decorating your room? Maybe you have an interest in interior designing that you could explain more. You did a good job explaining why you are writing the blog. It’s clear that your posts are to help other college students get ideas for decorating their dorm.
-The description sums up your blog and the purpose is clear. You could elaborate on where you will be getting pictures and ideas (ex: your own experiences, other blogs).
-I found your first blog post to be very interesting and I would visit your blog again to learn more. I like that you included a link to more dorm room arranging ideas. You did a good job at making the blog relatable and explaining your own experiences in a laid back way. This makes the post easy to read and enjoyable.
• Your about me provided a nice description of you and how why you're interested in this topic. I felt that it was catchy and would get your audience interested and thinking about you and your topic. I enjoyed reading why you decided to blog about this topic. I, as many others, can relate to this topic. I know my freshman year, I spent hours planning how I was going to organize and decorate my room; and I know this blog would have served me greatly. Your blog description also provides a nice insight as to what to expect. I think design is best described by pictures, which is what you intend to include which I feel is a strong point. Your description is short and concise and I think will draw readers in and wanting more! I LOVED your first blog. The pictures, like I said before, are worth a thousand words and help explain the post's purpose. I loved all the suggestions as well, and I think it is a great jumping off point. I really enjoyed the style of your blog, it is very conversation and down to earth, and I feel this is very appropriate with your audience . I look forward to reading more!!
ReplyDelete-Yes, your about me was clear about who the author (you) is and why you were writing this blog. You talked about who you are including how you went to school at URI and what year you are. You explained how she lived in a dorm the previous year and her experience with decorating the dorm. The only improvement I would suggest would be to tell a little more about yourself- I was curious to reading more about you in the about me section.
ReplyDelete-The description was short and to the point summing up what the blog is about perfectly. This was accomplished by explaining what the blog was and what would be included in her posts.
-The first post was a good starting point. I liked how it was the first basic step in decorating a dorm room, the furniture placement and storage. I enjoy the style of your writing and look foreword to more of your posts!
